Reading offline and in airplane mode

Each downloaded issue is cached to your device to read at your leisure. To read offline or in airplane mode, please first download the issue (and if desired, the audio) over a strong internet connection.

Deleting an issue (and audio)

To delete an issue from your library:

  1. Locate the issue you want to delete
  2. Touch and hold on the cover until the pop-up box appears
  3. Select which parts you want to delete

Resetting/force closing the app

To force close the app:

  1. Go to your device Settings
  2. Tap Applications
  3. Tap Manage applications
  4. Tap The Economist
  5. Tap Force stop under Controls (you may need to do this more than once to fully close the app)

Logging in and out of the app

To log in or out:

  1. On the Library screen, press the menu icon in the top right hand corner
  2. Tap Account on the menu
  3. Tap Log in/log out with Economist.com account and follow the on-screen instructions

Please note: logging out will delete all stored content. All deleted content can be re-downloaded if you are an existing subscriber

Checking your device date and time

To check that your device date and time are correct:

  1. Tap your device Settings
  2. Tap Date and time (turn off Set date and time automatically)
  3. Set Date and time

Ensuring you see each week’s issue

If you cannot see the latest issue:

  1. Use the device Back key to exit the app, then re-launch The Economist app
  2. Ensure the date and time are correct on your device
  3. Ensure you have a strong 3G or WiFi connection (test by loading a webpage in your browser)
  4. Restart the app using force close

New issue does not appear

If your new issue has not appeared by publishing time, please use the device Back key to exit the app, then re-launch The Economist app. If the new issue still does not appear, please try the steps to “Ensure you see each week’s issue” (above). If you are still experiencing problems, please contact customer service (below).
